Introduction to The DQ Life

Are you overwhelmed by stress and pressure? Feeling like you’re just surviving and disconnected from yourself and others?

Our most damaging stress isn’t self-created – it’s contagious stress, absorbed from close relationships and everyday interactions. Most self-care doesn’t touch this.

The DQ Life is different.

Grounded in evidence-based psychology and neurophysiology, we build your differentiation quotient (DQ) – your capacity to stay calm, clear and connected in the midst of relational pressure.

This isn’t about doing more.

It’s about doing things differently, so that you can thrive even in high-stress environments.

What is contagious Stress?

Contagious stress is the stress we catch from other people.

When we exceed our capacity to regulate stress internally, we offload it through our social nervous system – throwing it on to others. Through subtle cues or major outbursts, this transfer triggers the same fight-flight-freeze reactions in others as if they were facing the original stressor themselves.

This doesn’t just flood the body with adrenaline; it also damages relationships, creating spirals of reactivity, tension, and distance. Contagious stress is a major driver of chronic stress in families and dysfunction in work teams.

Meet Dr. Kathryn KisseLl

Dr Kathryn Kissell is a Harley Street Counselling Psychologist, Executive Coach, and the UK’s leading expert in Bowen Systems Theory – the psychological framework underpinning differentiated thinking.

For over 15 years, she has worked with high-performing professionals, parents, and leaders who appear successful on the outside but are quietly burning out under sustained relational pressure.

Known for translating complex psychological theory into practical, real-world skills, Kathryn founded The DQ Life to equip people with the tools they need to thrive before problems escalate into crises.

Why DQ Life works

The DQ Life is a modern articulation of Bowen systems coaching, integrating contemporary neuroscience of the social brain with depth psychology and evidence-based therapeutic models.

Unlike most approaches that focus solely on the individual, it addresses both the inner world and the relational system –  showing how stress, emotion, and patterned dynamics operate within you and between you.

Refined through years of clinical practice, teaching, research, and lived experience, the programme distils complex psychology into clear, practical insights that that can be learned, practised, and lived day to day.

The DQ Life gives you your own Harley Street specialist in your pocket.

The result is a structured, accessible learning experience – from free courses to monthly resources and teaching, through to a small-group deep-dive programme with Dr Kathryn Kissell – giving you the tools to build differentiation, step by step, anywhere, anytime on the app.

Who needs this?

You’ve lost yourself keeping everyone else happy.

You’re the capable one. The one everyone counts on. Managing work, family, all the demands. From the outside, you’re handling it.

Inside? You’re running on empty.

You’ve become so tuned to what others need that you’ve lost track of yourself. Your own thoughts and feelings are background noise to everyone else’s.

And the resentment is building. Sharp. Hot. You don’t recognise this version of yourself.

You’re ready for something different.

Not sympathy. Not another bath and candle. Real skills to understand what’s happening and change it.

You want your life back—not by doing more, but by doing things differently.
